REPORT: President Sleiman chairs national dialogue session in Baabda
A national dialogue session was held on Monday in Baabda under the chairmanship of President Michel Sleiman.

MPs Agop Pakradonian and Jean Ogassapian were the first to arrive, followed by MP Michel Murr, National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt, Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Future bloc leader Fouad Siniora, former Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Kataeb party leader Amin Gemayel.

Several officials did not attend the all-party talks, including Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun, Deputy Speaker Farid Makari, Hezbollah MP Mohammed Raad, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, Marada movement leader MP Sleiman Franjieh, MP Mohammad Safadi, the head of the Syrian Social National Party MP Assaad Hardan and MP Talal Arslan, who heads the Lebanese Democratic Party.

The session's closing statement stressed the need to hold further talks on the defense strategy, highlighting the importance of the implementation of the Taef accord.

Speaking from Baabda following the session, MP Walid Jumblatt lauded the president for his service.

“With steady nerves and patriotism, Sleiman managed to usher the country through a critical phase, dissociating it from tensions and affirming that there is no way out [of crisis] save through dialogue," Jumblatt said.
