REPORT: Public administrations’ employees stage sit-in, call for passing pay scale

The Association of Public Administrations’ Employees staged on Tuesday a sit-in outside the building of the Education Ministry in order to call for passing the pay scale draft law.

The sit-in was held prior to a parliamentary session set to be held later in the day to discuss the series of ranks and salaries.

The protesters demanded to be granted all their rights including a wage increase, saluting Speaker Nabih Berri.

For his part, the head of the Association of Public Administrations’ Employees Mahmoud Haidar reiterated his call on the deputies to attend the parliamentary session to pass the pay scale draft law, threatening that they may take escalatory steps and boycott official exams.

In turn, head of Public Secondary School Education Teachers Association Hanna Gharib stressed that the Union Coordinating Committee will start taking further steps until June 7th, in order to exert pressure on the deputies to pass the pay scale draft law.

“If you want to call it a rebellion or anything else, feel free to do so, but the UCC will not retreat,” he said addressing the officials.
