REPORT: Cabinet delays Lebanese University dossier until next week’s session
The cabinet postponed on Thursday the discussion pertaining to the issue of the Lebanese University until next week, amid disputes over the appointment of the dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

In this regard, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour noted that the National Struggle Front does not have any conditions concerning the issue of the Lebanese University, stressing the need to appoint competent deans.

In turn, Environment Minister Akram Chouhayeb pointed out that the NSF’s sole objection lies in dismissing a successful dean and appointing another, “as if the file of the Lebanese University became a political and sectarian settlement,” he said.

For his part, Economy Minister Alain Hakim said that the Kataeb party approved the full-employment request, but has objections regarding the appointments of the faculties’ deans.

As for Hezbollah’s stance, Agriculture Minister Hussein Hajj Hassam said that his party approved the proposals presented by Education Minister Elias Bou Saab regarding the full-employment and the appointment of the deans.

On another note, the cabinet also tackled the security situation in the northern city of Tripoli, where Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq stressed the need to achieve "equality and justice among the residents of the city."
