REPORT: Central Security Council holds meeting, discusses readiness for parliamentary elections
Minister of Interior Nohad Mashnouq chaired on Tuesday a meeting for the Central Security Council to discuss the readiness of the Lebanese security forces to oversee security during the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The meeting reportedly featured high on the security situation in the country ahead of the polls that are scheduled to take place in November.

Mashnouq asked leaders of security apparatuses to provide him with detailed information in this regard within a week.

Last year, Lebanese MPs extended their mandate until November 2014 after they failed to agree on a new electoral draft-law.

The cabinet had recently appointed the members of the committee that will supervise the upcoming parliamentary elections, naming ex-judge Nadim Abdel Malak as its head.

Around 289 candidates have submitted their nominations so far to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Those who wish to run in the elections must submit their candidacies before midnight on Tuesday.

The current presidential vacuum, which is caused by sharp disputes between the rival parties on the name of the successor of former president Michel Sleiman, whose mandate ended in May, threatens the fate of the parliamentary elections.
