REPORT: Deputies reelect Parliament’s bureau, committees’ members in short session

The Lebanese deputies reelected on Tuesday the members of the Parliament’s bureau during a session that lasted a quarter of an hour.

MPs also elected the heads, members and rapporteurs of 16 parliamentary committees.

Speaker Nabih Berri hoped in remarks addressed to the deputies that “they will reach an agreement over all other issues, including the election of a new president.”

The Lebanese Parliament failed 13 times to elect a new president due to lack of quorum, caused by the differences between the March 8 and 14 coalitions concerning the presidential candidates.

Consequently, Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum after Michel Sleiman's mandate ended on May 25 with rival political blocs still divided over a new leader.
