Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun arrived on Tuesday to Ain el-Tineh to meet with Speaker Nabih Berri.

Earlier, Aoun held talks with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan at Dar al-Fatwa in Beirut.

Following the meeting, Aoun noted that disputes are "a normal part of political life, which should be practiced calmly during this particular phase" stressing that he seeks national unity among all Lebanese factions.

“We should overcome this phase with the least amount of damage and commence a new one characterized by national unity,” he added.

Asked about the weekend's fighting in the northern city of Tripoli, Aoun said that he believes that "the crisis is now over.”

He warned however against the presence of sleeper terrorist cells in other regions that may cause unrest in the future.

Aoun revealed that he recently received a verbal message from the Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri, but did not further elaborate on the details.

Tripoli witnessed over the weekend battles between the army and armed men.

Several soldiers, gunmen, and civilians were killed in the unrest that erupted on Friday and lasted three days.

The army has since deployed in the northern city in order to arrest fugitive armed men.
