REPORT: Lebanese army seizes arms cache in Tripoli

Lebanese Armed Forces Command declared on Friday that an army unit raided several suspicious locations in Tripoli's Abi Samra neighborhood on Thursday. The army seized an "arms cache containing quantities of rifles, machine-guns, shells, hand grenades and ammunition along with explosives and military gear.

Investigations revealed that the weapons belong to Bilal Deqmaq.

In Turn, Bilal Deqmaq told LBCI that the weapons seized during the raid are "not new and were placed in the house a long time ago."

The Army crackdown, which started during the clashes with Islamist militants in the northern city of Tripoli and other parts of the north from Friday until Monday, has resulted in the detention of hundreds of Syrians, Lebanese and Palestinians in the region.

The Army successfully drove out militants from Tripoli earlier this week, storming a militant bastion in the Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood. The clashes killed several people, including civilians, soldiers and armed men.

Bilal Deqmaq is a Salafist cleric and the head of the Iqraa' association.
