REPORT: Heavy rainfall blocks Lebanon roads, keeps citizens stranded in their cars

A heavy traffic jam was reported on Saturday on the highway that links the Beirut airport to Khaldeh as the water level in both tunnels on the airport road has risen significantly.

A number of casualties was also reported after a vehicle overturned on the Nahmeh highway, causing a severe traffic jam. Red Cross teams transported the wounded to nearby hospitals.

In turn, Civil Defense ambulances and rescue teams provided assistance to the citizens who were left stranded inside their vehicles due to floods in Nahr El Mot and al-Hadath regions.

The Civil Defense also asked citizens not to cross the maritime road in Kaslik due to flooded streets.

Lebanon, a tiny and under-resourced country, has been grappling with highway floods due to its poor infrastructure and the lack of development plans.
