REPORT: Minister Abou Faour holds press conference, unveils new blacklist

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour held on Thursday a press conference in which he voiced hopes that the ministry’s campaign would turn into a permanent and routine performance at all institutions concerned with food safety.

Abou Faour also noted that the ministry inspected the wheat silos at the Beirut Port, adding that the area surrounding the silos does not meet the proper health standards, amid the presence of a quantity of truck wheels and dirt.

He also stressed that 90-95% of restaurant workers do not have health certificates, adding that certificates will become compulsory and violating firms will be shut down.

On another note, the minister announced that all food products and juices for children below 3 years of age will be inspected by the Ministry of Health.

Minister Abou Faour then announced a new list of firms violating the food safety regulations.

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour has been launching a campaign against corruption detected in restaurants and supermarkets in regards to food safety standards, and has made public several lists of violating restaurants and supermarkets underscoring the types of unfit foods being sold.
 
Following the food corruption scandal, the Health Ministry has ordered also the closure of many beauty centers that operate without official supervision.
 
Abou Faour’s campaign has also tackled the file of water quality.
 
The minister, who has received the support of many political forces, vowed to push ahead with his campaign, and stressed the need to protect the Lebanese citizens against any type of contamination.
