REPORT: Future delegation meets Sleiman, Gemayel
Former President Michel Sleiman criticized on Tuesday the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah without naming them for seeking to “paralyze” the cabinet, subsequently dragging the war in Syria to Lebanon.
 
“It is unacceptable to impose conditions on the cabinet,” Sleiman said following talks with a delegation from the Future bloc at his residence in Yarze.
 
The delegation was headed by MP Ahmed Fatfat and the meeting was attended by Defense Minister Samir Moqbel.
 
Sleiman, who now heads the so-called Consultative Gathering that brings together Kataeb leader Amine Gemayel and several cabinet ministers, described the current paralysis of the government as “very dangerous.”
 
He also called for the drafting of a new electoral law that gives apt representation for all the Lebanese people.
 
Following their meeting with former President Sleiman, Future bloc MPs headed to the Saifi region where they met head of the Kataeb Party Amine Gemayel.
 
 
Gemayel stated that external threats are posing great dangers on Lebanon due to lack of unity among the Lebanese, stressing the importance of electing a new president to restore the work of the cabinet and the parliament.
 
For his part, MP Fatfat emphasized that no political party has the right to obstruct the work of the cabinet, considering that those hindering the government’s work are impeding the life of all Lebanese citizens.
 
 
“We, along with the Kataeb party, are against the obstruction of the cabinet’s work,” MP Fatfat said, adding that Future Bloc MPs will hold talks with Prime Minister Tammam Salam as part of their meetings with Lebanese officials.
