Civil society activists marched Sunday from the electricity company in Sed el-Bouchrieh towards the piles of garbage accumulated near the River of Beirut in a bid to raise the voice against any apparent diseases resulting from the four-month long waste management crisis.
The activists called upon the cabinet to return money from the Independent Municipal Fund to municipalities so they can solve the trash crisis.
On another note, one of the activists said that today’s march comes after piles of uncollected garbage washed up last week along the streets of Beirut after heavy rains that caused flooding.
Lebanon has been grappling with a waste crisis following the July 17 closure of the Naameh landfill.
This has led to the piling up of garbage on the streets of the capital and other areas.
Experts have long warned of the dangers of the lingering crisis on the environment and people's health.
