REPORT: Investigations in Samaha’s case to be soon finalized

Judicial sources familiar with Former Minister Michel Samaha’s case reported on Friday that the investigations will soon be finalized and that the first Military Investigative Judge Riyadh Abou Ghida will refer the case to the Military Prosecutor Judge Saqr Saqr who will study the case before issuing an indictment.

The sources added that Judge Saqr has no updated information about the case, expressing its surprise about how the Syrian suspect Major General Ali Mamlouk was not informed about the necessity to appear before the Lebanese Military Court because the name of his mother is unknown.

In this context, security sources revealed that the report conducted by the Criminal Investigations that was delivered to ISF’s Information Branch and then referred to Judge Abou Ghida include the results of the analyses of the explosions transported in Smaha’s car and DNA tests. 

Samaha, was arrested on Thursday 9th of August by the Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch on suspicion of involvement in a plot to carry out terrorist attacks in Lebanon in collaboration with Syria.

Recordings of a conversation which allegedly took place between Sayyed and Samaha whilst driving back from Syria with the explosive devices were found inside Samaha's car. These recordings act as a major component in the case of Sayyed's possible involvement.

He was charged on Aug. 11 alongside Syrian National Security Bureau head Ali Mamlouk and a Syrian army officer identified as Brig. Gen. Adnan with plotting to assassinate political and religious figures in Lebanon and carry out terrorist attacks by the he government’s deputy commissioner at the Military Tribunal.
