REPORT: Moukhtara Palace opens its doors to the Future Movement

The Moukhtara Palace opened its doors to the Future Movement, where a meeting was held between the head of the National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt and a delegation from the Future including Fouad Siniora, MP Ahmad Fatfat, former Minister Mohammad Shatah and the counselor Nader Hariri in a visit which was postponed several times due to security reasons.           

In a statement to LBCI, MP Ahmad Fatfat said that the meeting was honest and serious, noting that MP Walid Jumblatt called for national dialogue from his centralist position. He added that the Future Movement is insisting on its position concerning the dialogue, stressing the need to limit the discussions during the dialogue sessions to the defense strategy.

On the parliamentary elections, Fatfat said that the Future Movement is not an enemy of “Walid Bek”, noting that “before starting making alliances, we must agree on an electoral law.”        

In this context, well-informed sources pointed that Jumblatt is supporting the adoption of the 60s electoral law, while his guests proposed meeting the demands of the Christians.

The same sources quoted Jumblatt as saying to his guests that his rescue initiative results from concerns over the fact that the country may fall into crisis triggered by political and religious extremism, adding that the governmental change is currently unsuitable, as that such change needs a regional change equal to the fall of the Syrian Regime. However, Jumblatt’s reading of the facts is pessimist regarding the Syrian crisis and he sees that it will last longer, while the Future Movement say that the Baath regime will fall soon.
