REPORT: Company operating the mechanic inspection centers in Lebanon ceases operations

The 4 Mechanic inspection centers in Lebanon did not close their doors for the annual maintenance works, but instead for the fact that the contract of the Saudi Fal Company operating this facility expired.

In this context, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel will notify ministers during the Cabinet session on Thursday on the negotiations he held with the previously mentioned company in order to renew its contract which commenced in 2002 in addition to "conditions that he had set for the interest of the Lebanese state."

The company suggested renewing its contract for 7 years, but Minister Charbel suggested the following:

- Renewing the contract for 5 years

 - The Lebanese states to receive an increase in taxation of the company's revenues

- The Saudi Fal Company to open 6 new inspection centers in Akkar, Tripoli, Jbeil, Nabatieh, Tyre, and Baalbek.

- The company to waive its previous demands and lawsuits.

- The company to donate 60 machines that read the serial number which will be placed on every inspected car so that ISF members may recognize it.

Recent statistics show that yearly inspected cars in Lebanon are almost 750 thousand out of 1 million 800 thousand cars which is almost 41.8 % of the cars.
