REPORT: A letter from an abused woman to Berri

KAFA Enough Violence & Exploitation organization held a sit-in outside the Samir Kassir garden in downtown Beirut at 10 am on Wednesday in protest of the failure to include the draft law pertaining to the protection of women from domestic violence in the agenda of the joint parliamentary committees.

Protesters raised banners reading “the lives of women are more important than your seats… now and not tomorrow, the draft law to protect women from domestic violence should be ratified” and “if you forget, people will not forget you.”

Following the sit-in, a woman who has suffered from domestic violence read a letter to House Speaker Nabih Berri using simple words to tell the story of how her husband used to beat her and her children and how this destroyed her life since there was no law to protect her.
