REPORT: Latest information on Roumieh's escape attempt

Judge Dany Zeenni pursued, under the supervision of State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr, the investigations regarding the tunnel that was found stretching to the inside of the Roumieh Prison.

The tunnel begins from the side of Emile Lahoud Highway, crosses the prison fence and ends in the craft room located in the building where juveniles are imprisoned.

Investigations have not yet revealed whether the drilling of the tunnel happened recently or a while back.

In this context, sources reported to LBCI that the tunnel passes through bloc D which is currently under reconstruction, stressing that the inmates belonging to Fatah Al-Islam where going to be transferred to this bloc once the maintenance work was complete.

According to investigations, the persons who conducted the drilling operation outside the prison had detailed security information. They were aware that a certain area was not supported with steel-cement structure and started digging towards this region. They were two meters away from reaching it.

Informed sources reported that Fateh al-Islam inmates knew about the operation since the prisoners in the 3rd floor of block B have Wi-fi internet connection and sophisticated mobile phones.
