Beijing accuses President of Taiwan of pushing the island towards 'war'

The Chinese Ministry of Defense on Friday accused Taiwan's new President, Lai Ching-te, of pushing the self-governing island, over which Beijing claims sovereignty, towards "war."

The ministry's spokesperson said in a statement, "Every time the pro-independence movement provokes us, we will go a bit further in our countermeasures until the complete reunification of the motherland is achieved."
