Washington names new head of mission in Venezuela: US diplomatic source

Washington has appointed a new head for its embassy in Venezuela, a U.S. diplomatic source told AFP on Thursday, as the nations seek to foster closer ties under interim president Delcy Rodriguez.

The U.S. embassy page on Thursday also listed Laura F. Dogu -- a former ambassador to Nicaragua and Honduras -- as its new charge d'affaires to Venezuela, whose long-term leader, Nicolas Maduro, was ousted in a U.S. military operation this month.

Relations between Caracas and Washington were severed in 2019, but John McNamara has served as U.S. charge d'affaires for Venezuela -- from neighboring Colombia -- since last year.
