Behind the speech platforms and behind the TV screens, the electoral battle moved to the virtual world, where the soldiers have unknown identities, the battle’s goals are as clear as they can be and the arms used are fake and fabricated news and accusations.
Under a secret address, a statement has been circulating issued by the Saudi Foreign Ministry, addressed to the Saudi Charge d’Affaires in Lebanon Walid Bukhari, calling for supporting the lists of the Future Movement and the Lebanese Forces in the Bekaa region, in a bid to weaken the influence of Hezbollah, according to the statement that holds the signature of Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir. The statement concluded with a vow to elect Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea as the next Lebanese president.
Another statement, but this time holding the signature of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, calls for continuing the support for Hariri in order to secure a parliamentary bloc that will have an alliance with Geagea in a bid to form a cabinet loyal to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headed by al-Mashnouq, according to the statement, which also stipulates that the ties with Hariri must be cut after the elections.
These fabricated statements were denied by Saudi ambassador to Lebanon, who deemed them an unethical campaign aiming at making political gains.
In turn, the security forces also stressed that these statements are fake ones, presenting evidence of forgery.
