Cabinet convenes to discuss 57-item agenda
The cabinet held a session on Thursday in the Grand Serail to discuss a 57-item agenda.

Sources revealed to LBCI that a heated debate erupted during the session over the General Security’s deportation of 14 Syrians without the knowledge of the political authority.

For their part, Minister of Health Ali Hassan Khalil and Cabinet Minister Ali Qansouh defended the step taken by the Public Security to deport them asserting that the Syrians had criminal provisions, in turn, the Ministers of the National Struggle Front objected to the way  public security conducted the move without referring to Cabinet. A notion later shared by former Minister of Interior MP Ahmad Fatfat.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel lashed back, stressing that security apparatuses in the country "do not make a move without his prior consent or knowledge".

Ministers told LBCI that the solution for the issue of EDL contract workers is drawing towards completion and will soon be announced. Minister Khalil later confirmed that the solution will be announced later on today.

Ahead of the session, PM Najib Mikati voiced determination to overcome all obstacles “to secure the rights of citizens”

Mikati added that the cabinet has chosen to deal with developments from a realistic point of view, leaving room for “calm settlements”.

The Prime Minister also confirmed that cabinet will continue shouldering its responsibilities at different levels.

Mikati went on to explain that cabinet has decided to put pressing demands at the top of its priority list, confirming that “this is the optimal solution to maintain the least balance between state revenues and public interests”.
