Chammas to LBCI: A decision must be taken over fuel crisis within hours, not days-[VIDEO]

Former head of the Petroleum Importing Companies Maroun Chammas said on Friday that a meeting will be held the Parliament during which a decision is supposed to be issued over the fuel prices.

Chammas’s comments were made during an interview with LBCI’s Nharkom Said TV show whereby he noted that the ruling elite in Lebanon is the one to be blamed for the “current tragic and unacceptable situation.”

He also noted that the importing companies are trying to prioritize some sectors, such as hospitals and bakeries, adding that the current crisis is “catastrophic and unprecedented.”

On another note, Chammas stressed that subsidies should be for a certain phase, adding that subsidies should be given directly to people and not indirect to the commodity.

“The exceptional situation calls for measures and a decision must be taken within hours, not days,” he concluded by saying.
