Berlin views Israel's closure of Al Jazeera as 'bad indicator' for press freedom

Germany's Foreign Ministry on Monday described the Israeli government's decision to close Qatar-based Al Jazeera as a 'bad indicator' for press freedom.

The ministry emphasized that "free and diverse journalism is an important pillar of any liberal democracy, especially in times of crisis, and it is essential to protect press freedom."
