ISF prevent EDL workers from staging sit-in

The Internal Security Forces arrested on Monday Electricite Du Liban on demand workers who blocked the Jiyeh highway with burning tires.

Earlier, the state-run National News Agency reported that EDL on demand workers closed the two main gates of the EDL institution in Corniche al-Nahr.

The workers prevented employees from entering the premises.

As well, the Internal Security Forces prevented the EDL on demand workers from staging a sit-in inside the premises of the Jieh power plant.

Parliament has endorsed a bill to employ the contract workers full-time at EDL but the draft legislation is awaiting the approval of Parliament’s Secretariat.

Unlike the FPM and Christian parties in the March 14 coalition, March 8’s Hezbollah and Amal Movement voted in support of a draft law in the Parliament to make contract workers full-time employment.

Christian parties argue that were EDL to employ 2,000 contract workers full-time without a proper regulatory mechanism, this would cause sectarian imbalance in the public sector.
