MP Raad: Those relying on foreign support to elect a president will face failure

Loyalty to the Resistance bloc leader MP Mohammad Raad called on Monday for the election of a Lebanese president "who could preserve Lebanon and the Resistance."

Raad's comments were made during the annual commemoration of what is known as the Quds Defenders Martyrs of Baalbek, whereby he warned those relying on foreign support to elect a new president that their attempts were doomed to failure.

He also called on Lebanese leaders to reassess their calculations and stop bidding on bilateral or even international agreements.

Lebanese parliament is scheduled to hold the fifth round of the presidential polls on Thursday.

Lawmakers failed in the previous rounds to elect a new president over disputes between the March 8 and 14 camps.

President Michel Sleiman's six-year mandate ends on Sunday.
