Technical schools contract workers block UNESCO road
Technical schools contract workers cut-off on Tuesday the Beirut UNESCO road in both directions, calling on the state to grant them full-time employment, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Thousands of Lebanese teachers, civil servants, contract workers and others have been on a continuous sit-in, urging the state to grant them their rights.

Last Wednesday, the Union Coordination Committee held a demonstration to exert pressure on Parliament to pass the series of ranks and salaries draft law.

Nonetheless, the Lebanese lawmakers failed to endorse the wage scale for lack of agreement over controversial items, and deferred discussions till after May 25, the constitutional deadline to elect a new head of state.

In the event of a power vacuum, the parliament can no longer legislate, further exacerbating the situation.
