LF leader Samir Geagea: Presence of Hezbollah weakens the Lebanese state
Lebanese Forces leader and presidential candidate Samir Geagea held on Wednesday a press conference at his residence in Mehrab whereby he expressed his rejection to the Hezbollah Secretary general's latest speech, adding that the presence of the armed group weakens the Lebanese state.

On Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's accusations of him being a provocative presidential candidate, Geagea said that he believes that his nomination increases MP Michel Aoun's chances of being elected president.

He also noted that he represents the majority of Christians in Lebanon and has a right to submit his candidacy for the presidency.

On MP Michel Aoun dubbing him an unconstitutional figure, Geagea said that the Free Patriotic Movement leader should be happy to run against him because "he will certainly win".

As for the presidential elections in Syria, Geagea said that there are no "real elections" there, adding that if there were a true presidential bid there would not be over one million Syrian refugees scattered across Lebanon.

Lebanese MPs failed in the fifth round of the vote to elect a new president due to disputes between the March 8 and 14 camps.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, who is the March 14 alliance's only candidate, failed in the first round to obtain the needed two-thirds of votes of the 128-member parliament.

In the subsequent rounds, March 8's MPs boycotted the session, resulting in a lack of quorum.

March 8 did not yet officially announce its candidate. But the camp’s figures have reiterated that Lebanon needs a consensual person in the country's top Christian post.
