LAF, Israeli military should exercise ‘maximum restraint’ -UNIFIL

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) issued a statement on Sunday whereby it called on the Israeli and Lebanese military to exercise maximum restraint.

In this regard, acting UNIFIL field Commander Major Tarondib Comar, urged both sides to fully cooperate with the international peacekeepers in a bid to avert further escalation.

Comar also noted that no damage or casualties were reported so far, the UNIFIL said, adding that no one has claimed responsibility for the rocket launch.

“The UNIFIL is conducting, in cooperation with the Lebanese army, intensive patrols in anticipation of additional attacks,” Comar said, noting that both sides have reiterated that they are committed to ending hostilities.

“The peacekeepers launched an investigation into the incident which constitutes a serious violation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1701,” Comar concluded.

Three rockets fired from Lebanon hit open areas near Nahariya in northern Israel on Saturday evening. Israel responded with artillery fire. There were no casualties. The attack followed a similar rocket attack from Lebanon on Friday.
