For his part, Speaker Nabih Berri stated that the only solution for the situation in Syria is political, adding that the “takfiri ideology” is attempting to invade Iraq after Syria.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, said Iran and Lebanon enjoy close and strategic relations, noting that his country has stood by Lebanon throughout critical moments.
“Lebanon has managed to remain unbowed before the Zionist entity,” Larijani said during a speech he delivered at the Lebanese University’s Law Faculty, shortly after he arrived to Beirut.
“The Islamic world is going through ‘special’ circumstances that differ from past incidents,” Larijani said, calling for efforts to achieve unity among the Islamic nation.
“Some movements are considered more active than states, like the Shi’ite movement Hezbollah, and play a positive role in the region,” Iranian Speaker added.
Larijani, accompanied with Deputy Iranian Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Hussein Amir Abdul Allahaan, is set to meet with a number of Lebanese officials and tackle the regional situation, mainly the crisis in neighboring Syria.
Larijani and the accompanying delegation were received at the Beirut International Airport by Speaker Nabih Berri’s representative, MP Ayyoub Hemayed, as well as Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MPs Ali Ammar and Bilal Farhat.
The Iranian Speaker was also welcomed by Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Muhammad Fathali, MP Mohammad Raad representing Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and other senior figures.
