Lebanon’s Armenians to mark centenary with march
Armenians in Lebanon will be celebrating on Friday (April 24) the centenary commemoration of the Armenian genocide.

A march will be held at 12:00 PM departing from the Armenian Church Catholicosate of Cilicia in Antelias, to the City Mall Bridge, Itihad Gallery junction, Khabbaz Galery junction until the Burj Hamoud stadium.

Therefore, the following traffic measures will be implemented:

1-    The traffic direction of the maritime road will remain unchanged from Jounieh to Beirut until the end of the march on April 24.

2-    Traffic coming from Jounieh towards Beirut will be deviated starting 11:00 am to Naccache Bridge (western route) towards the maritime road.

3-    Incoming traffic from Bikfaya towards Antelias will be transferred to the maritime and internal roads.

More than a million Armenians were killed and tens of thousands were deported by the Ottoman Empire starting 1915 during its final battles with Russia and its allies during World War I.

April 24 marks the day in 1915 when hundreds of members of the Armenian intelligentsia were apprehended and executed by the Ottoman Empire, and is normally considered to be the genocide’s start date.
