Sewage poured in Litani River, residents urge action

Residents of Hawsh al-Rafika town in the Bekaa blocked the town’s road near the Litani Bridge Monday to protest against the pollution of the Litani River. According to the protesters, the sewage of several neighboring towns is being poured into the river leading to the emission of unpleasant odors and the contamination of groundwater reserves.

In this context, the protesters urged for the government's interference to put an end to a situation, which they say has increased diseases among many in the population.
