Bishops warn over rift regarding military institution, call for answering dialogue call
The Council of Maronite Bishops confirmed on Wednesday that it refuses any attempt to drag Lebanon into a new civil war through widespread violence, stressing that the country needs all of its citizens to concede on the notions of unity and justice.

Following their monthly gathering in Bkerke under the auspices of Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai, the bishops warned of possible strife among the Lebanese people over the issue of the military and security institutions, which, according to him, heralds serious danger on national defense unity.

The bishops called for keeping the military and security institutions away from the political game.

In its concluding remarks, the council urged all politicians to answer the president’s call for dialogue without preconditions, describing the social situation as “catastrophic”.
