Introduction to the evening news 1-07-2012
A shroud of mystery surrounds the conflicting results of the Geneva summit for Syria. On the one hand the US’s readings of the result echo the notion which calls for the stepping down of Assad. Russia on the other hand calls for the opposite, citing the same readings.

Soon to follow were the mixed reactions of the Syrian opposition, whereby it was announced that the latter will be holding a conference in Cairo under the auspices of the Arab league in hopes of reaching common grounds. And so in those regards, President of the Syrian National Council Abdel Bassit Sida arrived to Egypt to pave the way for the meeting.

Another meeting is set to take place in Paris on the 6th of July also for the purpose of unifying the objectives of the Syrian opposition forces with over 100 participants attending. All these developments come in light of rising tensions between Damascus and Ankara, as Turkey pushed six F-16 fighter jets close to the Syrian border in retaliation for 3 Syrian helicopters reported to have hovered close to Turkey earlier in the day.

Meanwhile in Lebanon, amid ongoing heightened security measures; the security plan set for a month, seems to stop at Sidon’s entrance as Sheikh Ahmad Al-Assir continues his demonstration amid ongoing efforts to move the sit in elsewhere. But first with the latest updates on Syria.
