Burns: US concerned about border violations, but didn't mention "buffer zone"

Deputy U.S. Secretary of State William Burns called on Lebanon Friday to fulfill its commitments towards the international community.

Speaking upon his arrival at the Rafik Hariri International Airport, Burns said that he had discussed the latest security updates with Lebanese officials, reiterating U.S. support for the LAF.

Turning to the Syrian issue, Burns confirmed “we did not speak of a buffer zone in Lebanon, but we are concerned about the latest security breaches on the border”.

Burns stressed that the ‪U.N. should issue a resolution to end the escalation of violence in Syria.

“The more violence progresses in ‪Syria, the greater the danger it possesses over spilling into the rest of the region “, he said.
