Brax to NNA: Ships to start unloading fuel cargo as of today
Member of Gas Station Owners’ Syndicate George Brax asserted on Monday to the state-run National News Agency that the current data indicated that an agreement has been reached to start unloading the fuel cargo carried by a number of ships docked along Lebanon’s shores as of today.
“Therefore, queues that we were witnessing during the past days will decreases,” he added.
He warned however that no radical solution to the fuel crisis has been found yet, blaming the matter on the Central Bank “whose policy remains ambiguous as we can’t know whether it will continue to grant credit lined to importing companies on a regular basis, and in quantities sufficient for the local market even after having obtained exceptional approvals from the political authority over the agreed three-month period.”
Brax concluded by stressing that the main condition to get rid of queues, revive the economy, and encourage expatriates to visit Lebanon, is for the Central Bank to open credit in a smooth and continuous way to be able to import sufficient quantities of fuel, in addition to controlling smuggling, warehousing and the black market.
