High security surrounds Syrian Interior Minister at AUBMC

According to Al Joumhouria Daily, extraordinary security measures are being implemented around the AUB Medical Center where the Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad Ibrahim al-Shaar is currently receiving treatment.

The daily added that these measures were taken to prevent any security compromise, stressing that the section where Shaar is being treated is now isolated with his file deemed classified. Doctors and nurses are also prohibited from reporting any information about the patient.

In this context, sources told LBCI that Shaar’s condition is stable, emphasizing that "he is suffering from burns and wounds and does not need to undergo surgery."

However, medical sources told the newspaper that "Shaar’s situation is critical and that once he arrived to the hospital, he was directly rushed to the OR." The results of the operation remain undisclosed.

Shaar was wounded last week when an explosion targeted the Interior Ministry in Damascus. He was transferred to AUBMC in Beirut on Wednesday.
