Al-Bukhari organizes conference to mark 33rd anniversary of the Taif Accord-[VIDEO]
A conference to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Taif Accord, organized by Saudi Ambassador Walid al-Bukhari, was held on Saturday at the UNESCO Palace.

Al-Bukhari stressed that “the Taif Accord Conference reflects the keenness of Saudi Arabia and its leadership on preserving Lebanon's security, unity and stability.”

He added that France assured them that there will be no intention or proposal to change the Taif Accord.

As for Former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, he stated that a president must be elected now to complete the constitutional powers.

Progressive Socialist Party Leader Walid Jumblatt also stressed that “before discussing the amending of the Taif Accord, we must first implement it to reach the abolition of political sectarianism.”

Speaking at the same conference, United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka called for the implementation of the historic Taif Accord to ensure the stability of Lebanon, noting that this agreement established a new political system that meets the aspirations of the Lebanese by adopting and implementing reforms and establishing national belonging.
