Safadi: No jump in fuel prices
Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi said that statements about the increase in fuel prices are “a figment of the press’ imagination”, ruling out the possibility of any additional increase on diesel oil prices.

Safadi told Voice of Lebanon radio station that the Lebanese people, especially the low-income families and the poor, will benefit from the increase of the Value Added Tax (VAT) from 10% to 12%.

Safadi expressed his readiness to go back on the suggested raise and remove it at once from the 2012 budget, in case politicians do not want any raise that will allow a full health care coverage.

“The draft law to raise wages, to be passed by the parliament, will not be limited to the 1.8 million LBP ceiling but will include all workers”, Safadi said.
