Geagea: March 8 coalition incapable of building a state

         
Commenting on the cabinet's resignation on the onset of his press conference held on Monday, Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea cited the stances voiced by Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour when he called for the reinstatement of Syria at the Arab league and Hezbollah's involvement in the Syrian crisis in violation of the cabinet's policy of dissociation as the main reasons behind the failure the cabinet.            

In this context, Geagea said that the situation in Lebanon "cannot get any worse with the absence of the government," noting that "it was one of the most corrupt governments" to rule the country.         

"It tarnished Lebanon's image at many levels and failed to maintain security," he said.         

In addition, Geagea pointed out that the government resigned as it felt that Hezbollah is seeking to come to grips with all security bodies in Lebanon, adding that the March 8 coalition cannot build a state since it is tied to a regional agenda.         

Geagea also said: "Some parties are now calling for dialogue, but what kind of dialogue are they seeking? They hardly tried to reach a common ground over a new electoral law but until this moment no plan has paid off."       

In this regard, Geagea stated that the two former national unity governments failed to achieve positive results for many reasons, and added that the new government should steer clear of the caretaker cabinet.       

Accordingly, Geagea said: "I suggest that the new government be made up of centrists and the March 14 coalition that is holding deliberations in order to elect a new premier. In addition, we should prioritize the formation of a new government rather than returning to dialogue."         

On another note, the LF leader called on MP Walid Jumblat and the centrists to support his suggestion since Hezbollah is utterly committed to the Syrian regime, noting that any government under Hezbollah will wreak havoc in the country.
