Lebanon FM says Syria assures border deployment is defensive, not intervention

Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji said Syria has assured Beirut that the deployment of its forces along the Lebanese border is solely aimed at protecting Syrian territory and preventing security breaches and smuggling.

In a post on X, Rajji said he held a sideline conversation with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani during an emergency consultative meeting in Riyadh.

According to Rajji, al-Shaibani stressed that Syria has no intention of entering Lebanon or interfering in its internal affairs under any circumstances.
