Beirut MPs oppose planned shelter center, set talks with PM Salam

Sources told LBCI that a delegation of Beirut MPs is set to meet Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to object to the planned opening of a new shelter center in the capital.

According to the sources, the shelter, currently being prepared in an area near the Beirut Port, was approved by the Disaster Risk Management unit with the backing of the Prime Minister’s office.

The facility consists of an old warehouse capable of accommodating between 500 and 700 displaced people. It is intended to provide temporary housing for those left homeless along Beirut’s seafront and in the streets.

The MPs’ visit to Salam is expected to focus on voicing opposition to the center's opening.
