Israel’s PM says he has instructed cabinet to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that, in response to repeated calls from Lebanon to start direct talks, he has instructed Israel’s cabinet to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible.

He said the talks will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon.

Netanyahu also welcomed the Lebanese prime minister’s call to limit weapons in Beirut exclusively to state institutions.
