UN experts condemn Israel’s strikes on Lebanon

United Nations experts on Wednesday condemned Israel’s bombardment of Lebanon earlier this month, describing it as “unlawful aggression and a campaign of indiscriminate bombing,” the U.N. Human Rights Council said.

Quoting the experts, the council said in a statement: “This is not self-defense, but a flagrant violation of the U.N. Charter, a deliberate destruction of prospects for peace, and an affront to multilateralism and the international system established by the United Nations.”

Israel carried out its most intense strikes on Lebanon since the outbreak of the conflict with Hezbollah last month, killing more than 250 people on April 8, after the Iran-backed group resumed rocket attacks on northern Israel following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Lebanon is not covered by that agreement.
