Lebanese PM Salam reaffirms ceasefire priority as Washington talks resume

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said that the primary objective remains securing and stabilizing a ceasefire across all Lebanese territory, commenting on the resumption of negotiations in Washington.

In a statement, Salam stressed that negotiations remain "the least costly option for Lebanon and the Lebanese people."

He added that diplomatic efforts offer the shortest path toward ending the Israeli occupation and enabling displaced residents of southern Lebanon to return to their towns and villages.

Salam also emphasized the importance of national unity behind state institutions, saying that progress toward these goals would be faster "the more all efforts are united under the authority of the state."
