VIDEO: Two gunmen open fire at LAF soldier in Tripoli

Two masked gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on Friday morning in Tripoli at the Lebanese Armed Forces soldier Issa Tah who was injured and transferred to the Islamic Hospital for treatment.

Later on, the state-run National News Agency reported that sniper fire targeted Starco Street in Tripoli’s Bab al-Tabbaneh, adding that the army responded to the source of fire.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon. But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.

Fighting had re-erupted on Monday the 21st of October in the northern city between gunmen of rival Lebanese sects where at least 12 people were killed in the latest round of clashes.

The latest battle also wounded more than 60 people, officials said.

The Lebanese Armed Forces have since been deploying in the region in hopes of implementing rule of law and security, however have increasingly come under attack by gunmen in the area.
