REPORT: Parliament holds morning session dedicated to discuss policy statement

Member of the Kataeb party MP Fadi al-Haber opened Thursday's parliamentary session with a speech whereby he granted the cabinet a vote of confidence, stressing that the most important matter at hand is the safety of the country and the people.

He noted that what had been destroyed by the former government will need years to restore.

For his part, MP Khaled al-Daher denounced the Syrian shelling targeting Wadi Khaled, pointing out that there are several wrong practices in the implementation of security measures.

He accused the “Shabbiha” of Tripoli of receiving support from some of the army Intelligence officers, stating that he will grant the cabinet a vote of confidence.

Consequently, a verbal clash erupted between MP al-Daher and Change and Reform bloc MPs regarding the military institution.
Member of the Future bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat explained that in case a new president fails to be elected, the parliament takes over the power, not the cabinet.

Kataeb Party's Central Committee Coordinator MP Sami Gemayel said that March 14’s participation in the cabinet aims at cooperating with those who serve the country’s interests, not to be partners with the parties destroying Lebanon.

While he gave the cabinet a vote of confidence, he stressed that March 14 forces will keep on calling for monitoring the borders from both sides to prevent fighters and suicide bombers from crossing into Lebanon, and for deploying army troops along the borders.

In turn, Lebanese Forces MP Georges Adwan said that Lebanon is in dire need of a compromise that saves the country,  noting that the LF party will not participate in the cabinet.

Adwan also stressed that the Lebanese entity is in danger, adding that the Lebanese state is the sole protector of the Lebanese people of all sects.

Meanwhile, MP Hassan Fadlallah said that Hezbollah is keen on holding dialogue to reach common ground over Lebanon's best interests.

On Wednesday the Parliament convened in a session where the deputies delivered speeches pertaining to the security situation, the Syrian crisis and the political and economic challenges.
