Lebanese security forces have taken tight security measures to prevent Electricite du Liban contract workers from blocking roads at the EDL institution in Corniche el-Nahr, the state-run National News Agency reported on Monday.       


This comes after Electricite du Liban contract workers burned tires inside the EDL institution after preventing employees from entering the building.               

In this regard, the head of EDL workers committee Lebnan Makhoul called for granting all workers full-time employment, "or else we will shut down service provider companies who stand as an obstacle to our tenure".               

"We will continue our movements until our demands are met," Makhoul added.              

In turn, the EDL institution urged the security forces to assume their responsibilities by maintaining security at the central building, reopening all gates and ensuring that the employees are able to enter the building.     

EDL contract workers have been protesting for months calling on the government to employ them as full-time staff and to pay their salaries.          

Their protests have included shutting the gates of EDL headquarters in Beirut and disrupting normal work at the state-run company.
