REPORT: Cabinet session convenes in a regular session at Grand Serail

The cabinet convened on Thursday in a regular session under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam, to discuss an agenda of 52 items, which excludes any disputable file.

During the session, PM Salam reiterated the need to elect a new president for the country as soon as possible, adding that the presidential vacuum negatively impacts the work of state institutions.

Salam also stressed that the crisis committee is deploying efforts to ensure the release of the Arsal kidnapped soldiers, adding that the issue “is complicated and needs to be followed up with utmost confidentiality and responsibility.”

On a separate note, and prior to the session, Environment Minister Mohammad al-Mashnouq said that the Naameh landfill can only remain active for a few more months, if there is a will to resolve the crisis pertaining to solid waste management.

For his part, Agriculture Minister Akram Chouhayeb said that an alternative for the al-Naameh landfill must be found before December 17th, since it will be shutdown by that date.
