REPORT: Minister Rifi says trials of Islamist inmates to be finalized within two months

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi explained Sunday that reason behind the failure of bringing the Islamist detainees to the trial sessions is due to the delay in drafting their files, promising that the trials will end within two months.

Following his meeting with relatives of Roumieh inmates, Rifi noted that “it is difficult to erase what is left of 30-years of the Syrian regime influence in three months,” pointing out that the case requires more time.

In this regard, the minister stressed that he will seek to organize meetings between the relatives and the inmates in accordance with the rules, adding that the transfer of the prisoners to bloc D is a temporary measures pending renovation of bloc B.

After the meeting, Rifi contacted the interior minister, the general prosecutor and the director general of the Internal Security Forces to follow up on the issues of the prisoners.
