REPORT: Digital diplomacy evolves; includes diplomats

The concept of digital diplomacy has become more developed seemingly since it combines diplomats from one side, and web activists from the other.               

In this framework, the US and British State departments encourage their workers, especially diplomats and those working in foreign countries, to communicate with their surroundings via Facebook and Twitter.                    

For his part, the British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher said that his webpage gave him the chance to communicate with people hard to meet with in Lebanon or even abroad.                           

As for Alec Ross, the Senior Advisor for Innovation to the US Secretary of State, he considered that communicating online without any censorship is constructive and positive especially for the people of developing countries.                           


As for Jimmy Lech, one of the founders of Portland Communication, he pointed out that more than 400 million Lebanese citizens have Facebook accounts.            


He added that one of the most active persons in Lebanon is Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
