Introduction to the evening news 21-12-2012

It is as though the Mayan elders seek retribution for the damage that has been done to their reputation and civilization. The damage portrayed via “the end of the world” slogan backlashed against those who “marketed” the concept, sending ripples of fear and terror across the planet.             

The end did not come. However, in our part of the world, life continues albeit dimly.    

The Syrian regime and according to NATO is on the verge of collapse, with its desperation leading to the use of scud missiles against its own people. The turmoil is also apparent in the Yarmouk camp, where infighting seems to have returned with a vengeance.               

Meanwhile Lebanon is due to receive three bodies from the Syrian side; those who were killed in the Talkalakh incident. The three were identified as Hajj Deeb, Abdul Karim Ibrahim and Hassan Srour.               

As for Egypt, and on the heel of the second round of the already controversial constitution referendum, confrontations between pro-Morsi Islamists and those who oppose him took the limelight of events on the streets. These bouts of street clashes seem to predict some sort of prelude to even deeper rifts following the end of the vote.           

The end is not here, but life, or “true living”; that is a different story all together.
